How to Appeal an Armtrac Parking Ticket

By GetRighted Legal Research TeamLast updated July 2026

Summary

Armtrac Ltd is a BPA-member operator based in the Midlands, managing car parks at retail parks, commercial sites, and some leisure venues. Stage 1 rejections go to POPLA. You have 28 days from the Notice to Keeper to appeal. Armtrac uses ANPR enforcement at most sites and follows standard BPA patterns. Their POPLA record is consistent with industry averages — around 50% of BPA operator appeals succeed. Armtrac's charges are typically £100 reduced to £60 in the discount period.

About Armtrac

Armtrac Ltd is a mid-size private parking operator with ANPR-enforced car parks at retail parks, commercial premises, and leisure venues, primarily in the Midlands and North of England. As a BPA member, they are bound by the BPA Code of Practice on signage, grace periods, and POFA 2012 Schedule 4 keeper-liability requirements. Armtrac operates a standard two-stage appeal process, with POPLA as the independent appeal body after Stage 1 rejection. Appeals are submitted via their website or by post.

How to Appeal

Armtrac appeal process:

  1. 1Day 0: ANPR cameras record your vehicle
  2. 2Within 14 days: Notice to Keeper dispatched — check the envelope postmark
  3. 3Day 1–28 from NtK: Submit Stage 1 appeal via armtrac.co.uk or post
  4. 4Within 28 days: Armtrac responds
  5. 5After rejection: POPLA reference issued — submit within 28 days
  6. 6POPLA decision: Independent; binding on Armtrac if upheld

Evidence for Your Appeal

Collect these before writing your appeal:

  • NtK envelope postmark date — the first thing to check for POFA compliance
  • ANPR timestamps from the PCN — note any discrepancy with your actual stay
  • Photos of signage at the entrance and at your parking bay
  • Payment receipt or bank statement if you paid
  • Shopping or business receipts from the site with timestamps
  • Any evidence of obstructed, vandalised, or missing signs

Armtrac Considerations

Armtrac's mid-size operation means their enforcement is less automated than ParkingEye or Smart Parking but follows the same BPA rules. Their signage at smaller retail parks sometimes consists of a single entrance sign — check whether bay-level signs exist. BPA CoP s.18.3 requires signs visible from each space. For overstay challenges, the ANPR timestamp margin (3–5 minutes for camera-to-space driving) plus the 10-minute BPA grace period (s.13) means apparent overstays of up to 15 minutes are often defensible. Armtrac's response to Stage 1 appeals is typically formulaic — prepare for POPLA from the start.

POPLA Track Record

Published POPLA Annual Report data shows approximately 50% of BPA operator appeals succeed. Armtrac's POPLA record tracks the industry average. There are no operator-specific anomalies — standard signage and POFA grounds perform at the expected rate.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have never heard of Armtrac — are they a legitimate operator?
Yes. Armtrac Ltd is a registered BPA member. Their charges are enforceable if they comply with POFA 2012 and the BPA Code of Practice. Being less well-known does not affect their legal standing, but the same defences apply as for any other private operator.
Armtrac's signs were hard to read — is that a defence?
Yes. BPA CoP s.18.3 requires signs to be clearly visible and legible from each parking space. If signs were faded, small, or positioned too far from your space to read, take photos and raise inadequate signage as your primary ground.
Can I appeal directly to POPLA without doing Stage 1?
No. You must complete Stage 1 with Armtrac first. POPLA will only accept your appeal after Armtrac has rejected it and issued a POPLA reference number. Submit Stage 1 promptly so you have time for POPLA if needed.
Armtrac's NtK arrived 16 days after the parking event — is that too late?
Yes. Under POFA 2012, Schedule 4, Para 9, the NtK must be dispatched within 14 days of the parking event for ANPR enforcement. 16 days is outside the deadline. Keeper liability cannot be established. Keep the envelope and submit it with your appeal.
